In the environment, players take control of Link, who can climb and jump practically any surface. Although many weapons have numerous applications, such as lighting fires with tree branches and creating snowboards out of shields, many weapons fail after prolonged usage. During the game, Link is equipped with a technological device called the Sheikah Slate, which gives players access to a map, lets them set waypoints, and lets them look up enemy stats. The Slate can be enhanced with a variety of abilities by finding different runes, such as the ability to control magnetic items, create bombs, and halt time around adversaries and things.
