RimWorld makes up stories. It’s meant to let people co-write sad, weird, and happy stories about pirates in jail, desperate immigrants, going hungry, and surviving. You are in charge of the “random” things that happen in the world. The AI Storyteller, on the other hand, adds every storm, pirate attack, and visiting salesman to your story as a card. Cassandra Classic likes to build tension, Randy Random does crazy things, and Phoebe Chillax likes to chill out. Your people are not professional farmers; they are survivors of a passenger ship that sank in space. You could end up with a prince, a bookkeeper, and a housewife.
More colonists will join your side if you capture them in battle or buy them from slave traders. You can also take in refugees. Your group will always have a bunch of different people. The history of each player is kept track of and impacts how they play. In addition Noblemen are great at getting things done with other people (like recruiting criminals or negotiating trade deals), but they don’t want to do hard work. A farm oaf has grown food for a long time and knows how to do it, but they can’t do study. Nerdy scientists are great at study but terrible at getting along with other people.
