In Card-en-Ciel, you play as Neon, a detective specializing in crimes within full-dive VR games. Neon’s world is thrown into chaos when an in-development game is overrun by characters from various games, old and new, bringing an unexpected twist to the narrative. This storyline added a layer of intrigue for me as I explored virtual dungeons, encountering characters that came to life with full English and Japanese voice acting. Watching them react in real-time battles brought an extra emotional connection that I often miss in traditional deckbuilders.

The plot-driven progression, combined with the freedom to explore dungeons and choose battles, makes for a compelling journey that kept me invested. I enjoyed the sense of agency in selecting which enemies to face, strategizing around the strengths and weaknesses of my collected characters. The game’s emphasis on story and character interactions added depth and made each battle feel like a meaningful step forward.
